Ok for your iPod, well, that one I cannot comment on; however, your onion is
making a simple galvanic cell. The two wires are made from different metals.
The onion is moist and contains electrolytes. This enables a current to flow
from one wire to the other. How much current and the direction of the current
depends on the two types of metals. Don't like the onion - try a potato, lemon,
apple, or anything like that! Heck, if you have the right metals - a damp
sponge with a little salt and a spritz of vinegar will do just fine!
