Bill Mac! You've got me there! I've realised the importance of dimensional
analysis working as a way to re-establish my scientific career. I have to
solve, solve, solve problems since science is the art of the soluble but it all
has to be done within a framework to keep it all together. Perhaps thought may
be given to people as to how to get into chemistry and build. Some say:
understand the Periodic Table to see where it all fits. I enjoy solving
chemistry & maths problems on Y! answers. So perhaps more problems to
provide grist and encourage insightful answers which may be shared.

Dimensional analysis, the saving grace of all those expereinced and the bane of
all those learning! As a chemistry teacher, I can attest that those student who
use DA generally do better than those who do not. Speaking of using DA,
American high school students taking AP Chemistry will soon have to take the
College Board's AP Chemistry exam. On that test, if a performance event answer
is worth 3 points - 1 point is for the correct number and two points for
showing your work for getting that correct number - and 0 points if DA is not
used. Back to the original topic, how can chemIONS better serve the chemistry
community.... If I had the perfect answer for that one, I would be working for
grou.ps! This is what I suggest: Those working in the chemical fields: at least
once or twice a month, drop a note on what is new, interesting, or a what is a
good puzzle. Those teaching chemistry: at least once or twice a month, post a
note on something successful that you found for your students (or something
that does not work well), test taking suggestions, good/fun questions, etc....
Those learning chemistry: As often as needed, ask some of the experts in this
community for their help, thoughts, or suggestions. Everyone - a good puzzle or
joke always works! Bill Mac
