The Triangle PT is supposed to make it easier to see how orbitals fill.
Personally, I do not like the Triangle PT. Some first year chemistry students
might have a problem with the understanding of why s and p orbitals are
promoted over d; however, once an energy diagram is used - they tend to get it.
Now, the poor little first year kids do not have to totally grasp all of the
importance and concepts of an energy diagram..... All I really expect for
beginners is to have a basic understanding of how oribtals fill and how this
relates to periodic trends.

Thanks Bill. Really helpful. I now better opt for the normal PT.

http://library.thinkquest.org/C0110203/othertables.htm This table was created
to help students to easier see the manner in which orbitals fill. Personally, I
do not like it. I think that a well explained periodic table enables students
to very quickly grasp the orbital filling patterns and exceptions - which comes
back in to play when explaining multiple oxidation states. The ZTP model cannot
be used (I will admit no formal training with it) to explain multiple oxidation
states.
